welcome to the zoo dyson...first off..where are you at...and to answer your question....I would think that the 3300SCR w/5.7 efi would come with the b3 drives...gear ratios I can't answer but looking at the maxum boats. com website..it doesn't list engines or drives....the best thing to do is get the hin number on the stern and call USMARINE and they can tell you exactly what drives and engines came in that particular boat...I hope your not paying alot for this thing....with no drives it's going to cost some serious cash to replace...and when you do...make sure you replace the bellows when you install the new drives..

dang if jonathan isn't fast......b2 drives...

If the Previous Owner (PO) let the drives rot off the boat what else did he neglect?? I would bet the boat is going to need A LOT of work.

Hey Dyson,

The 3300SCR is an awesome boat! You're going to love it, I know that I did enough to grab a new one myself! Regarding the corrosion from electrolysis (this is caused by the boat grounding itself of excessive positive charge). All Boats accumulate static charge just sliding across water (not unlike the static you gather with shoes sliding across carpet) this charge is grounded through what is know as a sacrificial anode (a grounding point to the water) Your boat has several of these made from Zinc, as the positive charge of the boat is conducted to ground a tiny amount of the zinc sacrifices itself in the process and prevents the unwanted metal items grounded in the water (like your drives or trim tabs etc.)
Now, the same accumulation of positive charge will take place not moving through the water by virtue of the shore power operating while the boat is a rest in the slip. Just charging the batteries with the onboard charger or running the refrigerator, etc will gather a positive charge on the boat. Again the same process of discharge takes place, I would assume that the reason your drives rotted off was that the sacrificial anodes perished and then was left to the drives to do the job of shedding excessive positive charge. You'll get new ones with the new drives but make sure that the engines MERCATHODE System (each engine has one) is working and the boat is equipped with a Galvanic Isolator and it is working (it should be located behind the boats electrical shore power panel.) Corrosion and the marine environment will diminish their effectiveness because of corrosion on the wire terminals of each component. Your Marine mechanics will know the correct procedures to see that each is in fact working. Have a blast with that new Maxum 3300SCR "The KING of the MAXUM Stern Drive Cruisers’!!

well..although that is a good explanation of dielectric corrosion...it's not quite accurate...but it'll do....think of seawater as a giant battery....disimilar metals as the annode/electrode....that's what dielectric corrosion is...depositing softer metals onto harder metals ...thus you see aluminum drives will rot away when they are exposed to the sea with no sacraficial annodes to give it's all for the good of the drive....maintaining those zinc's is one of the most important thing you can do for your drives....

Sorry to Correct you SP but the term is actually Galvanic corrosion. And this is stated in fresh not Brackish or salt water

I stand corrected......but I am correct about the salt water being a big gigantic battery...

Hope the 3300 worked out for you. I have the 3300 SCR with the 7.4L twin and B3 drives. I just love this boat!

hai sp.....

coorrect, but......when we dock all season long with our tupperware bathtubs between those steel boats, there is also more change on corrosion because their batteries are straight connected to their hull so big huge batterys are lying in the water.
so our anodes have to be changed almost every year...(at least thats the problem i have lying between the ugly steel boats (the owners are what we call the gray wave.......age of 65 and more make trips between march and june, and september till october....juli and august oyu dont see them on the water it's to busy for them they cant handle that....)

greatz, ed
