Default 2000 2800scr won’t start

Hello Maxum owners,
The 7.4 has been running perfectly until yesterday when I went to start it, all I could hear was a slight clicking sound. Batteries are connected well and are good and charged. I don’t know if this is a coincidence but she wouldn’t start right after I power washed the bilge compartment - tried to get as little water on the engine as possible. Might water have caused the issue? Thought it could be a faulty solenoid slave but I need another person to turn the ignition to locate its where abouts. Thought I’d post this to anyone that may have an idea why it suddenly won’t turn over - just click?
Thanks,
George

Water can definitely cause electrical issues.

Just a click can be so many things.

Low battery voltage.
Loose dirty battery cables, check both end of the positive and negative.
Bad slave soleniod, located on top of the engine near circuit breaker.
Bad starter soleniod
Bad starter
Hydolocked engine.

Use a volt meter to verify voltage is not dropping when cranking.

Pressure washing the bilge under the engine will almost certainly target the starter. Hitting the starter or coil with pressurized water could have shorted them out.

Thanks for the response.
I used to pressure wash my old analog Doral - never bothered it.
I suppose, this Maxum is full of electronics.
I’ll start with the solenoid and try over ride it - see if it turns over. If not, then it might be the starter.
Either way, I may have to get my mechanic involved.

I suspect it's the slave solenoid, however run the checklist from Mike. That will pinpoint it for sure.

The problem was the starter coil - $200 to have it serviced. The hard part is contorting my rather large frame to remove the starter. I would hate to do the job with duel engines. As it is, I'll assemble it Friday when i get the starter back. Thanks everyone for the tips and suggestions. I really like my Maxum.

Assuming he means field coil or armature of the starter motor.
