Default 1997 Maxum 1750NB Dual Battery Kit Wiring

Hi there, this is my first post. I am trying to install a dual battery kit and switch on my boat so that we don't drain the battery while anchored and listening to music. Can anyone suggest a good kit and switch and possible instructions on how to go bout this? Thanks in advance!

Blue Seas systems has a nice Add a battery kit that has everything you need except the batteries.

Do you have a single pole battery isolation switch installed now?

Not currently. I am planing to add the isolator kit and a switch as well. Though I am not sure how to isolate the fuse box to the new house battery. Since the main fuse box positive cable currently connects to the engine somewhere.

If there is no switch now, then you're going to run the large positive lead from the existing battery to the output post of the new battery switch. The starting battery will go to battery pole #1 on the switch. The house battery will go to battery pole #2 on the switch.

i was going to the Add-a-Battery kit too but with the wiring on my 1800SR, the "House" (helm fuses) is not separate from the Engine; it would be more of a House&Engine/Starter split instead of a House/Engine&Starter like in Blue Sea's diagrams.

Ultimately it didn't really make sense to split only the starter out since house battery would still be responsible for the engine, specifically the starter relay. So I'm going the traditional Off-1-Both-2 switch. YMMV.

The stock alternator puts out 65A I think, should be enough to charge both batteries provided they aren't completely tanked.

**Edit: Sorry, I just realized that the orignal thread is a few months old...sorry for the resurrection!
