Default 1997 3000 scr SINGLE engine!?

So I'm looking at purchasing a local boat which we really like but we found out that instead of the twin mercruisers it only has the SINGLE and no generator! Are there any other 3000 owners out there with the single engine? Everything that I keep reading is that with the single it is waaaaaay under powered? For the most part it would only be my wife and I (and the dogs).
THOUGHTS!?

THANKS!

Chris

Welcome aboard

Rare but there are a few out there. Most are twin 4.3 or 5.0 compared the single big block. A single drive is less drag in the water and a single big block is less weight then a pair of big blocks. For just 2 folks and a few dogs you may be ok but I would not buy it or any boat without a test ride carrying the weight of what you expect to normally have on board. So if you test ride with the owner and yourself that will equal how you plan to use her so you will get the feel for how she handles.

IMO a single engine in this size boat can make docking a little harder, however if you perform your own maintaince it will be easier with more space to work.

Chris,

I own a 3000SCR with two 5.7L's, I could not imagine this size boat with one motor. I read you are concerned with being underpowered which may be true I honestly don't know the specifics of this boat you are looking at. But you will be loosing major maneuverability when docking or even if you leave it in a slip with a marina. If you are going to use it anywhere with tides and currents you are going to want that second engine. This is a lot of boat IMO for just one motor.

The 2800 and 3000 would have come with a single 7.4L (454). Very rare in the 3000 to come with a single. Generators in the 2800 and 3000 were also an option but very, very uncommon.
