Default 1900 SC outdrive won't lower

Hi all, I've got a 2001 1900 SC. We had it out a month or so ago and everything was fine. Was going to take it out today, but the outdrive won't lower. I can hear the electric motor running when I push the button, but nothing is happening. It's like it is locked into the trailering position. Any thoughts on what may be causing this?

Thanks!
Jeff

Storing the drive up is a no no for two reasons, one it can get stuck up due to issues with the hydraulic rams and second it puts stress on the bellows which can lead to premature failure.

Try disconnecting the ends of the rams from the trailing end of the drive to see if only one is stuck. Sometimes a blow with a rubber mallet can free it else it will need to be rebuilt or replaced.

Ugh! Well that sucks. Rookie mistake I guess. OK, well thanks for the info (even if it wasn't exactly what I wanted to hear!)

If it clicks only, it's a bad solenoid. If it clicks and you can hear the motor running, then you likely have no hydraulic fluid or the seal on the pump is blown.

Is the boat on a trailer or in the water??

Shrew, I can hear the motor running, it's just not lowering. And the boat's on a trailer.

Thanks for the response!

Put a block under the outdrive. The pull the pin that connects the end of the rams to the drive. Now carefully lift the drive, remove the block and lower the drive.

Now you can work on the hydraulics.

Check the hydraulic reservoir and fill.

extend and contract the rams.

Look for leaks.

If the rams don't extend and oil pukes out of the rams, it is the seals on the rams

If the rams don't extend and no oil pukes, it's the pump.

Don't overfill the reservoir. The level should drop when both rams are completely extended. watch the min/max levels
