Default Whats this switch for?

Have 95 3200 SCR. Just found a switch in the small compartment under the port side cockpit seat. I think it says "anchor". My windlass has foot controls up on the bow and a on/off switch near the fuse panel in the helm area. So, no idea what this anchor switch is supposed to be. By the way, what a poor place for a compartment, can barely get to it.

that should be the breaker for the windlass...I think it's about a 60 amp breaker....if it's a lever operated switch..that's what it is..

Jam, I have this same switch in the little compartment, but I do not have an additional switch on the helm. I agree, poor placement......

P.s. My 3200 SCR is a 1994..... First model year

I think it's placed where it is due to the size of the wire feeding it. Mine's about 5' from the battery switch, near the engine compartment... using #6 (or #4) wire... massive in diameter due to the high amperage windlasses draw. Imagine having to feed that wire up to the helm like all the other components... the cost ALONE would be another $100 I bet!

So I'm now wondering what the lever switch under the helm is for, its near the fuse block. I thought that was for the windlass foot controls so nobody accidentally steps on the foot switches.

Default what the switch is for

The switch at the helm is a disconnect switch that will turn off the power to the windlass thus eliminating any accidents.
The "switch" in the compartment is actually a breaker.
This is to protect the cct and the wire from overheating in a case where too much current in being drawn by the winlass.
The reason it is where it is because according to most electrical codes you need to have a breaker protecting high current ccts with a designated distance from the source in this case the battery.
