Default Shift cable length

On the lake this weekend and having a perfect day. Until my starboard shift handle became suddenly jammed. I disconnected the cable from the transmission and both cable and transmission lever were free, but when the load of cable re-attached to the lever, it became hard to shift again. Seems a fray was beginning somewhere in the last few feet of the cable where it bends to attach to the transmission. Anyone know how many inches the cable is so I can order another? 1998 Maxum 4100 SCA. I did not have time to pull the old one before I left the state.
