Default New to sport yachts

Hello all
I am looking for some help. I have fell head over heels in love with a 1996 3200 SCR. It was in salt water from 96 to 09 Engines were replaced in 05 been in fresh water from 2010 to 2015
Do I need to be concerned about that? Is there other problems that are common in these boats or other thing I need to check out.
Any info would be a great help to a newby in sport yachts THANKS

ski welcome aboard

Are the engines raw or fresh water cooled? What type of water do you plan to boat in, salt or fresh? Either way the engines saw 4 years of salt so I would not be worried about it. BTY these engines are now 10 years old so I hope you did not think this was a bargain as the original engines were replaced after 9 years. Guess the real question is how many hours are on them?

I would say nothing to worry about that is "common in these boats" however just the normal stuff for any boat of this age; bellows, drives, clean wiring, structure sound (transom and stringers), ...

You may want to consider hiring a survivor.

Ditto on hiring a marine surveyor for a hull and mechanical survey.

Yes ditto on both survey's! Salt will eat up metal like a teenager eats pizza. Water jackets, manifolds, water pumps and etc.....all are subject to salt damage.

Just be careful with a boat that old that has been in salt water...good luck!

OK two thinks, first I cannot spell surveyor , second salt does not mean death. My boat is a 1997 and has been in some level of salt it's entire life and is still in good shape running the factory engine. It comes down to how well the boat was maintained, I have seen salt engine go to 2000 hours. Additionally I have seen engines go at 500 hours mainly due to not replacing the exhaust. A good survey will go a long way here.

One thing many overlook, the anodes on the outdrives. Fresh water boats usually have magnesium anodes. Salt/brackish water have aluminum (or zinc) anodes.
