Default Modernizing a 46 exterior

Hi.

Has anyone done any upgrades to the windows or exterior of a 4600?

Mine is getting paint this winter and she’s looking a bit dated. I’ve done major upgrades to the interior, the electronics, engines and generator

Thanks

Tom

Only a handful of 4600 owners on this site. I guess none have done the type of upgrades you’re looking to do but someone may chime in eventually.

Regardless of size or even make and model, 'changing' the windows doesn't really make much sense. There are hatches (Deck) and there are portlights (Hull). It would be extremely rare to 'change' them. The cutout is a specific size and shape. I've heard of people with leaks removing, repairing and rebedding, or replacing if something was damaged in removal. There's usually so many other things to do that major changes costing a large amount of time and/or labor are rarely chased.

What types of changes were you thinking about?

We added an awning that provides a lot of shade. Makes the cockpit and swim platform a little more comfortable. Only takes a few minutes to put up or take down and is unaffected at any cruising speed.

Default 4600 SCB - Upgrades

Hi Tom,

I am just seeing this post. I had all my window frames with the exception of the aft sliding glass door, cleaned, primed and painted with a color that is very close to the color of the boat. They look great.

Also, I had my dash consoles remade and used new gauges. See for yourself.

I attached two (2) photos.

Best regards,
John

Steve,

The awning is a great idea. Where did you get it?

Thanks,
John

John,

Frame was made out of stainless tube and fittings. The longest piece of tubing has a joint in the middle and folds for storage. The canvas was sewn by a friend. Basic but functional.
