Default Salon Remodel?

Hello,

We had a catastrophic window failure on our port side, which caused water to enter the salon. The wood and carpeting in our interior (and probably everything behind the walls) are ruined. Everything will need to be removed and replaced once the leak has been addressed.

Has anyone ever remodeled their salon on the 4600 SCB?
What are your tips and tricks?
How long did it take?
Did you remove the walls and/or ceiling?
Do you have any suggestions?

Any photos would be helpful too.

Thank you!

I’ve removed the cabinets and wall covering to get at the interior space to address a few leaks. Not too hard. We’ve also installed teak flooring throughout, it’s a nice upgrade but will add some weight. Also had all the upholstery replaced. Big improvement over the OEM. Attached a few pics.

@SteveP

Is that a real wood floor? IF so, I assume you nailed it down. If not, how did you attach to the hatches?

I'm looking at doing my floor, and have 3 large hatches in the saloon. I was thinking about a lifeproof floor, but I'm concern about the edges on and around the hatches and how they would hold up.

Where I could attach with nails I did (pneumatic stapler). However most of the salon was glued with epoxy designed for use on boats. The 4 hatches were built with the teak attached to 3/4” ply. I tried to use the old hatches but they were too small. Hardest part of the job was getting rid of the glue under the carpeting. Only acetone worked well enough. I wanted to get as much of the glue off as possible to ensure the epoxy bonded well with the decks fiberglass.

Forgot to confirm that yes it is real pre-finished 3/8 teak.

Impressive!

We're taking the carpet and cabinet out this weekend. Would you be willing to have a call with us to walk us through your process removing the walls? To say we're nervous opening this can of worms is an understatement!

Thank you!

Steve,

I'd like to redo the inside upholstery. The eating area and the U-shaped sofa. Can you please explain how to remove the items?

Thanks,
John

John,

The sofa is screwed into the floor. Once you remove the screws you can pull the sofa out and access a few big screws that attach the backs of the sofa to the base. Once you unscrew these you can remove the backs. I took all the pieces to an upholsterer. Same with the dinette except the screws that attach the back are accessed after removing a panel in the entry to the guest quarters. Once these screws are removed you can lift the back up and out of a couple of clips that hold it in place. I ordered extra fabric and used it to cover areas like the base of the dinette cushions.
