96 3200 SCR port aft bench

Hope you people don't get tired of me, cause I have lots of questions!

On my (see above model reference) looks like the PO has attached the underside of the seat with a few (ACE Hardware) corner brackets.

It looks like the factory intended for the seat to somehow, hinge from the back side. What is the purpose? Doesn't look like it could down.

The port side bench on my 95 3200 scr has hinges, so when you lift the port side engine door, the bench seat will swing up a bit and allow the engine door to fully open.
