Yes, you can absolutely change the output shaft seals with the boat in the water and without pulling the transmissions off the engines. The Cummins 6BTA 330hp is usually paired with ZF marine transmissions (typically ZF 220A or ZF 63A/80A). While the job is entirely possible to do in situ, it requires a bit of careful rigging, a few specific tools, and an understanding of the primary safety risk: the propeller shaft trying to back out of the boat. I have a 4600 SCB with 370's and my mechanic did it in the water. If I remember correctly he used a line to secure the propeller shaft to minimize the water intrusion. We did have water but maybe 10 gallons and he did it quick.
