Default 3100 SE batteries

When I bought my 3100 SE, it came with two DC4D batteries. What batteries did Maxum install on the boat out of the factory?

I am debating on whether to switch to AGM batteries or stay with the DC4D batteries when it’s time to replace. I know I’ll loose some capacity if I go with the AGMs. Any thoughts/advice?

Your decision will need to be based upon your power needs. AGM will recover (take a charge quicker) than the lead acid equivalent. As you stated, you do loose a bit of capacity, but that where your specific needs play into the equation.
For the house bank on my 3000, I run two 8D lead acid so I have the capacity and reserve for my overnighting activities (I run an inverter periodically so this was accounted for in my plan).

If cost wasn't a consideration I would have gone to AGM, but at almost double the cost I chose the old lead acid.

Thank you for the reply John.

BTW aren't two 8D batteries pretty heavy? I had 4 6V batteries for my house bank and thought those were heavy so I just went with two 12V marine DC batteries. Those were enough to power my microwave and tv use for a weekend trip.

I am leaning towards the AGMs over the 4Ds to reduce a little weight.

Yes. They are beasts to manhandle.. 125lbs or so each.
I don't have a genny on this boat so I early needed the extra capacity for our multi-day trips. I could be mistaken, but I believe the AGM's will be heavier than conventional lead-acid...
