Default Replacing a fuel tank

I have a 1994 24' maxum. How do you remove the 70 fuel tank. Some say remove the engine. Then some say under the birth head by cutting it back and lifting it out over the engine. Does any one know the measurement of the fuel tank?

Welcome aboard

Is it the 2400 SCR model? If so I have not heard of anyone needing to replace the tank therefore no post on this to refer to.

Having a 2400 myself I would dread this job. I do not see how removing the bulkhead and birth up will allow it to be removed without removing the engine. I suspect the engine needs to come out, the bulkhead at the end of the tank in the engine compartment needs to be removed and the floor of the mid-birth removed as well.

It's been 5 months since your post. I don't know if you've already replaced the Gas tank. I have a 1999 Maxum 2300 SC and I had to replace my gas tank. Unfortunately you have to pull the Motor. No way around it. Then the bulkhead forward of the motor must be cut out. Then the gas tank will slide into the engine compartment. This is not that easy. The Gas tank is kinda glued into place so be ready for a lot of cursing.

To make the reinstallation of the new tank easier I had the new gas tank custom welded one inch smaller by the OEM supplier of the aluminum gas tank. I lost capacity. Instead of 70 Gallon now it's 67 but who gives a crap. It made installing a million times easier than the original.

I hope this helps. I have a guy who will pull the motor and reinstall it for $300. That is if you live in Central Florida.

Default fuel tank replacement 2700 scr

i just pulled my tank out after finding out it was corroded and leaking fuel into the bilge. i cut the plywood along the stringers under the rear berth and took it out through the cabin. No need to remove the engine. it was a real pain in the *****. had to cut the top of the starboard stringer out to get it turned 90 degrees. after i had it out i found a bunch of rot in the forward bulkhead. does anyone know if this is structural?

Rather old thread and it was the last time any of them posted. Starting your own thread will probably be best.
