Default Possible New Maxum Owner

Might become a New Owner,

We are looking at a 1998 2700 SCR,

The biggest issue I have with pulling the trigger on this boat is it has the 5.7 litre engine, have not had a chance to test run it yet. Will this boat get up and plane

Engine starts fine, outdrive would not raise today when we tried it, trim tabs work.

Bottom will need to be painted soon

The boat is in good shape, just needs a good cleaning

Would appreiate any information on this boat

Thanks

Doug

welcome to the zoo doug.....I had a 2003 2700scr a few yrs ago....I had a 6.2ltr mpi engine and a b3 drive..thing ran like a scalded ape....with all the gear we had onboard and food...etc...full fuel..water...we'd run all day long at 3800-4000 rpm..not sure the 5.7ltr is up to the job...what is the weight of the boat??

three things you need for resale:

1. windless
2. A/C
3. Fuel injection.

Next, 5.7 is fine for under six adults on board. Anything more and its a 22mph Cruise.

Check all the seal for white salt drip lines, this usually behind the engine, from the main transom pin seal.

electrical gremlins are typical on every boat that changes hands, you just got to run them down. The out drive switch is easy because you can pull the cable, and jump out switch to see if it will work.

I have a 98 2800

It has the 7.4mpi

personally, I think the 5.7 would be underpowered, especially after adding fuel, water, gear, humans, dogs, etc......

I believe the 2700 isan 8.6 beam, while the 2800 is a 9.9 beam. The difference in 1' 3" of beam and 1' of length changes the drag coifficient. This is why the 2700 could get a away with a 5.7. The difference in HP to weight ratio on the 5.7 as compared to the 7.4 made it an acceptible power package with this in mind as well. However, Brunswick like many others always gave a few options in power to be able to slide to bottom line and motivate sales. I always felt like largest power option available was typically the one most suited to the boat. The middle was still very good, the lowest was a less costly option but typicaly underpowered.

With the 2800 powered with a single engine, it's really the additional torque of the 7.4 that was needed to get it out of the water.

My old 1990 2700SCR with a 5.7 an B3 drive planes no problem when loaded without using the trim tabs. I have been very inpressed with its performance and credit the B3 outdrive.

Only way to know for sure it to take it for a spin, bring one of your heavier buddies along and have him sit as far aft as possible.
