Philbo is correct, after you get on plane, raise your outdrive slightly, you'll hear the rpm's come up.

Thanks for the tips. Next time out I'll trim it up a bit and see if I can pick up a little more top end.

Anyone know what the max engine speed is? Its just odd for me to run a big block at 5000 rpms for hours on end. I know that's how boats run but I am just wishing someone would make a transmission so we could keep the prop speed up and keep the RPM's lower.

Hard to guess what my top speed should be since I don't know if this big stainless 4 blade prop I have is the original one or not. If 30 mph is good for 6100' elevation then maybe if I get it down to Lake Powell it will run faster since Powell is 3600' elevation?

Your engine will produce more power at Powell, for sure.
There is a good chance that increase in power will over rev your boat.
If this happens, which it should, you will need to re prop.
I believe estimated WOT on your motor is in the 4200-4600rpm range.
If your tach is correct(good chance it isn't) you are over revving at Jordanell.

I'll try to keep it below 4500 rpm. Thanks.

Don't aim for high speeds, it's a cruiser, find the sweet cruising speed. Your wallet will thank you as well with better fuel economy.

Find the RPM's where it just starts to come off plane and then add a little throttle to find the sweet spot.

No reason to be in a hurry when out cruising in your boat.

Once again fly boy attitude.

get off the after burner, drop down to sea level; time to chill at cruise speed

There is no tide and not much of a following sea on fresh water bodies of water. However, are you boating on a river with a current? A head wind vs. a tail wind won't make such a significant change in RPM. When I'm running with tide, seas or current I might get 2-3 Kph (Knots Per Hour) difference than running against the sea at the same RPM. I wouldn't absolutely not expect to see such a significant change in Max. RPM.

I agree, that you should get up on plane, then start clicking your outdrive OUT (UP) until either you hear it ventilate, or you stop seeing an uptick in RPM's. I would get in some relatively flat water, then get on plane and raise the tabs up and the drive up until yo ureach your max. RPM's, then compare your Max. RPM to the Max. range for the engine. If you're engine is rated for 4200-4600, you are underpropped if you are reaching 5K. Increasing Prop Pitch will decrease time to plane and top speed.

Well I'm not looking to spend another grand on a new prop setup so I'll have to make do with this one for a while. I'm anxious to get back on the water and try again. As for the current and wind, it was windy enough that my boat was moving decent on its own. We have had some strong winds here lately.

You will find that when on plane your boat will lean into the wind. Use your tabs to keep it level.

Lt JG, did you ever figure out how to get the sunpad to fit properly? I've found the lip underneath the aft seat but I'm trying to determine how the support goes for the other seat.

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the club!
Nice boat!
I was searching for something about melted switches which we have. The rubber rubs off on our clothes.
How did you do to replace the melted parts?
