Default 2900 SCR-Water leaking below dash

Starting this year, my 2001 2900 has been leaking water below the dash. It pours down across the fuse panels when the boat is moving. I took the gauge panel off and the only place that I think water could come out is thru the 2 large openings for wiring. Openings are about 1 1/2" dia. with rubber boats and all the boat wiring.
Obviously, the be rain water from somewhere and hanging up on some ledge or something. I assume the windshield so I removed the screws one at a time and applied silicone, Still leaks.
Anyone experience this?

Thanks

Hello jetz!

welcome to the forum! There are alot of great people here that will try to answer your questions and help you with your boating.

First thing to come to my mind is your speedo line leaking? Does it only leak when your moving?

I have a 2001 3000SCR and I trying to picture what your talking about. That is double walled on the rightside, so if water came in it would go to the bilge.

You should have a rubber strip between the fiberglass and window frame. Have you every taken a garden hose and sprayed to see what happen?

Hope this helps and I would think others will voice opinions soon.......

Roger

Ditto,

Unless it only happens when it rains heavily, or when if you're taking monster waves and spray, then it is the speedo. There is a pitot most likely on the drive which connects to a tube, which sends water up to the speedo. I dislike this design. They are inaccurate to begin with and get clogged frequently. I disconnected mine on the drive and use the GPS to give accurate SOG (Speed over ground).

I checked the speedo tonight, tube was off.
That had to be the problem!

Thanks biggerseagar and shrew!

Now I have to clean up my rusty and corroding fuse blocks!
Any tips for that?

Jetz, if the fuse bus is heavily corroded, then replace the fuse bus, the connectors and the fuses themselves. It's neither expensive, nor hard. It is a little uncomfortable though. Having someone there to hand you things makes life a lot easier. Otherwise, you'll be up and down a thousand times and the space isn't terribly convenient.

Try covering the instrument panel when it rains, to test it.... i had a cover for my 2000 2800 scr that I had in the past... sounds that it could be going in right thru those wood looking panels where the gauges are! good luck!
