Default 1992 2700 SCR - underpowered?

Hey folks,

So i searched several of the forums and came up with some related things, but no definitive answer, so asking here.

I am going to look at the above over the weekend, which if looks like the pictures is pristene, but it only has a merc 5.7 260hp with Alpha1 drive. It seems to me that it might be underpowered for that boat. I will be using it in LI sound with occasional trips into the ocean, although those are rare. Still, the sound kicks up some heavy waves and wind..

Naturally, I'll have a survey done, etc., if I like it, but am concerned about power and load on that motor.

Thanks for any help you can give.

A.T.

I do not know the weight nor beam of this boat but yes I would prefer a big block and either a Bravo 2 or 3 in this boat. Take it for a sea test loaded with the number of folks you plan to typically will boat with to see how it performs.

My 2400 SCR has a 5.7LX with a B2 8'6" beam and weighs 5000lbs dry.

Up to 4 passengers not bad more than that she is slower to plane but once on plane holds well enough.

Not so much the engine as the drive. The Alpha is a small drive and better suited for run-abouts. And there is no easy solution for the problem.

I did not know they put Alphas on the 2700, even back then.

Thanks folks,

I'm going to check it out this weekend. Didn't think about that itsabowtime, a good point. the guy sounds pretty knowledgeable, but just in case I'll go just to check out the drive and make sure it is an alpha.

If it is, I'll probably pass.

Thanks again for the responses.
