Default New to me free boat

Well I just had a 1989 cuddy cabin given to me. I ran the HIN through product support and they came up with 1989 model 2002. I have not been able to find anything on that model number. It's still inside an old chicken house used for storage so getting any other numbers isn't possible, working on getting it out without tearing down the building. It does have a Force 125 outboard. Any information anyone has on this model would be appreciated.

Hi Delmarva. Welcome Aboard.

A few words of caution. Make sure you get a bill of sale. Also research transfer of ownership in your state. Some require a title, other's don't. Basically, make sure you get what you need to properly transfer ownership and are able to register the boat.

Be careful of 'FREE" boats. YES, it is alright to look a gift boat in the mouth. Unfortunately, MANY free boats are really "Free Disposal" for the previous owner. In other words, many free boats are really the PO avoiding the cost and headache of disposing of the boat themselves.

Make sure you're not dealing with rotten transom, rotten stringers, or general disrepair the exceeds the value of the boat. Force outboards have been discontinued. You might want to spend some money on a survey up front to avoid larger expenses in the future.

Let us know how it goes and if you ahve any questions.

Thanks SP and Shrew. The boat came from my girlfriends brother, so I don't have far to go for answers or paperwork. It was registered and used a few times last season. He has the title for boat and trailer. PO has a 1 year old and a recently purchased farm, so no time for a boat that needs constant attention.

No apologies necessary, my affinity for all things old and obsolete have had me waving the "That Guy" flag many times!

Well... I finally got the boat out of the chicken house. Needs some work, mostly cosmetic, but I will be working on the deck this winter. Going to start the motor tonight and see how it runs. It does have some electrical issues, but nothing I can't fix. I'll try and take some pictures tomorrow of what I have to start with.

Hi..Delmarva...it is a good boat but takes a water test ride and operates it above 2700 rpm for 30 minutes or more. Check everything both before and after the run, If the engine and drive check out. Inspect the floor for soft spots.......
