Hi, has anyone got an 1800 MX as I need to source a gas strut for my ski locker in the deck. Unfortunately the strut is missing, so I can't use it as a reference to get a new one!
If you have one a part number or some basic dimensions, open/closed and diameter would help me a lot.
Yes, that's why I was hoping someone who had one could help me. Closed is actually easier as I can just measure between the posts. How open is open though is a different question. There used to be parts lists on the Maxum website, but that's long gone.
Figure out how much room you have for the closed dimension, then figure out how far open you want to the locker to open. Many struts come with lifting lbs too. Figure about how much the hatch weighs. higher lbs is not always better. It causes the hatch to snap up to quick and put pressure on the hatch in the closed position forcing you to yank hard, then have it snap open on you. To low in lbs and the weight of the hatch can cause the hatch to no hold open all the way.
Thanks Shrew, You are right, just wanted to take the easy route if someone could help identify the right bit. Now done it the hard way:
Length is 70cm when open, weight is 5Kg to lift, so 50N with 10mm ball socket.

FYI when you install it, it’s recommended to mount it so that when closed, larger cylinder is up and the shaft is down. This keeps the oil in contact with the seal.
Yes, normal to do so. I'm sure many have made that mistake and wondered why their struts deteriorate so quickly. Sometimes we just don't know what we don't know, so useful advice for anyone reading this at a later date.
