Grill Mount - Maxum Boat Owners Club

I'd love to see the various ways people have their grills mounted. we used ours a LOT last year and cooked most of our meals on our longer trips (week long). But I'm not super happy about how it's mounted as it's a bit rough to get to. If I get a 2700 I'll have the swim step which is nice, but if we move up to a 2800 I'm wondering where to mount the grill....

With any boat model you can add a larger swim platform and mount the grill on a post.

I'm limited to a 30FT LOA because its basically the only slip available in my area. There are waiting lists for a 32FT max and a 36FT max but the price increases substantially (the 36 is near double what I pay now). so we are toying with a 2700 + swimstep or a 2800 without...

So you could add a swim platform to the 2700 but not the 2800/2900.

Correcto. So my wife and I keep going back and forth on that. To be honest I actually am probably leaning 60/40 that I'd prefer to keep our 2400 and invest money into the fun aspects there. Update the upholstery, get some items fixed in the cockpit, new electronics and stereo. But it's because I spent a LOT of time on it in 2020 and got to know it and the motor well....

The 2400 is too tight when we have our German Shepard though to be honest and her thoughts on a little more space make sense to me.

We usually moor bow in, so the lack of swim step can be tricky in our cold wet weather out here and I don't like my grilling setup on the 2400. Another reason why I think a 2700 makes more sense for me, giving me a BBQ spot on a swimstep....

I purchased a 2008 2900SE last summer. Very pleased with the features, including a built-in electric grill/griddle for operation off either dock power or with the boat's 110 volt generator when out traveling. Length is 29 feet 10" when the transom is included.

Something you may want to look out for.

thanks! is that total length from tip of pulpit to tip of transom?
My current covered slip is a 28ft and I'm allowed a 2FT max overhang on the water side which they are extremely strict about, I simply can't go past 30FT with any part of the boat, dinghy etc.

And since slips are really hard to get in Puget Sound right now, I don't want to risk being kicked out, lol.

Yes, total length is 2 inches short of 30 feet. No bow pulpit on the 2008 model, just a normal "V" shape at the tip of the bow, no extension to put you over 30 foot limit.

ahh thank you. That's interesting to know. The prices I'm seeing right now for 2900s are within my budget (although they are nowhere close to Puget Sound). This adds something for us to look at!

Sidebar question: do you moor bow in? I'm realizing that if we move up to a 30ft boat I will likely have to back in as the step will now be 1-2ft past the edge of my dock. No reason why I couldn't do that, I just haven't.

We back into our slip, which is about 35 feet in length, which fortunately leaves us a bit of wiggle room on each end. This was our 1st boat ever, with no boating history in our family. After a couple of docking lessons from one of my new Marina friends, we're quite comfortable backing the boat in as long as a companion handles the bow line tie-ups to the front dock pilings.

The 2400 is my 3rd, but they keep going up 2ft coincidentally. It's not even 2foot itus lol, just happened. First was Dad's old 20ft'er, then my CDory 22. Now this. I've come to realize in boating life everything works out OK as long as I just go slow, take my time and don't stress lol. The first time I had to single had my boat I was a little apprehensive but I figured what the hell, people do it with bigger boats I'll be fine, ha.

One thought I have about backing into our slip is that while it will make easier, we will lose the privacy have having the cockpit and grill facing the open water. Our boat is a cabin replacement so we go down there for change of scenery sometimes for the weekend without even taking her out of the slip.

1st world problems... but balancing slip availability with the right model boat is tough lol.

I wonder what loa would be on your boat with a swimstep. I could see putting the 2900 in our slip now and getting on a waiting list for the 32ft slip to add a step later.

Go to swimplatforms WEB site to get the size. I believe on the 2900 it's like their design for the 2400 which overlays on top of the molded in platform.
