Default EMC2 Quantum Paint Project

I decided I wanted to add some color to the Maxum 2400SE. After reading an article on Boating Magazine I chose EMC2 Quantum. I called Jon Boswell at Engineered Marine Coatings Inc and he helped with me a smaller size kit for the medium grey accent. Their standard kits are made for a full hull and I only need to do between the rub rail and lower pint stripe. The paint rolls on so I do not have to worry about spraying or overspray at the shop.

I did a quick Photoshop to check the color and look and then I ordered the paint. Today I did all of the prep work so I can paint the boat. Once the paint is done I will put a thicker pinstripe on the bottom edge and then post more pictures.

PHOTOSHOP COLOR TEST PICTURE BELOW- NOT ACTUAL PAINT RESULTS

Daleo56,
I have the same boat as yours, thanks for sharing everything you do to your boat.
I'm learning and picking up good ideas, pictures are great.

Thank you both for following the posts. I like to work on the boat and post if the topic has not been covered too much. Until I upgrade to a bigger boat I will continue to do smaller projects on this one.

The grey turned out a little darker than I thought. I hope it looks a little lighter when outside! I wanted it to look a little more modern but it kinda looks like a 1995 now

Default Here's the grey on mine.

You're darker than my 1990 2755 SCR. Mine wasn't painted - it was in the gelcoat.

Yours looks very very nice IMHO

Thank you. being all white it looks like a floating ice chest at a distance sometimes. I think between the added color and the new arch canopy I am putting on it will look good. If the color is too gray I will just have to paint it blue or red!

Maybe I will paint the bottom black. :-) I really like the Nordhavn 43.

I pulled the tape off tonight. To finish I need to put 1/2" dark blue pinstripe on the bottom edge and grey sealant on the underside of the rubrail. I think it looks good and do not think I need to do any additional color sanding for now.

So that rolled on and dried smooth? Is it as hard and durable as gel coat? Can it be color matched for repairs...?

It rolled on and dried with a slight orange peel. It is reflective and looks good though. It is not as durable as the gel coat or anti-fouling paint but is a nice paint for a recreational boat.

They say they can match colors but I chose Medium Grey. I really need to get it outside and see it in the sun!

Can you compound it smooth? I assume it is thick enough. Maybe not compound, but possibly either a slight more or less aggressive cutting agent would get it right?

I am going to try 2000 wet and then Finesse-it with my Makita this weekend.

I will post a before and after picture with a reflection. The fluorescent lighting really does not do it justice though...

I'm going for exactly the same effect but using a vinyl wrap. I think the 2400 scr look better with its lines broken up with horizontal lines as it can look a little slab sided from some views. I'm going for the same dark blue i have on my canopy and anti-foul. i'll post photos as I'm at the boat this weekend .

I think a vinyl wrap will look good!
