Default WWII Pictures

This was being passed around the office today, really cool/old pic's from WWII

Man-oh-man, amazing quality to these photos. The accompanying story came with the email. But 'hi-def' and/or digital quality pictures were possible, as is proved here. Enjoy..

Note, the Russian translation to English is achieved if you click on the link provided after hitting the one below. I'm sure SOME of you would have figured that out, but you don't have to spend time doing so now..

Again, enjoy..

WWII Airplane Factories - High Quality Kodachrome 4x5 Pictures

Wow! Amazing Pictures Very clear

From a friend:

Back in the mid '70s when I was working at Hellers Camera in Bethesda Md. I had a reference book with a color photo of the battleship Pennsylvania in an advanced base sectional dock, somewhere in the Pacific in about 1944. The quality of the photo made it clear that it was shot with a large format camera, which puzzled me since I did not think Kodachrome (the only modern color film of the time in the US) was available in sheet films. A guy I worked with was an old Kodak hand (and WWII vet, a radioman in Europe) and told me that they did have sheet Kodachrome, and that there was only one machine to process the film, located in Rochester. The exposed film was sent there for processing.

And note the almost complete lack of basic safety equipment. I saw only one pair of safety glasses, and only a few of the workers were wearing gloves. Working without gloves around sheet metal is an injury waiting to happen.

Notice most of the woman had lip stick and nail polish on. WWII could not have been won without the woman of America stepping into men's shoes to build the equipment needed to defeat the axis powers.

Fascinating! Some of these these images are 70 years old and look as fresh as ever. If someone had told any of the subjects in these photos that we'd have such a clear look at them in the year 2012... boggles my mind. Thought you'd find this interesting !

I just love the WWII Aircraft. When I got to my 1st duty station back in 73, I had the good Fortune to work on a F4U Corsair. and if my memory serves me right, it was one of only a few built that had R4360 eng, It needed a Carb changed and space was limited so they recruited the smallest guy they could find...me...lol I also worked on a Grumman G-21 Goose. Ahhhhh those were the days....

Some collector bought it from the Navy and had some Maintenance that had to be done before he could fly it out. I worked on T-28's, S-2D, C-1, C131(VIP Ver), C-121, RH-53D, CH-53E, V-22, and now the CH-53K. Kinda miss being on the flight line and Flying the CH-53E, but then when its 30Deg outside and I'm in my warm office, I look at the young Maintainers and tell them I had my turn...LOL

Just something about those bent wing Corsair's that I always loved. For that matter even it's name, Corsair, is cool to me.
