Default AICW

I've been researcing the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway for future boating. It's interesting history.

It's now a goal of mine to go from DC to FL via the ICW once I get the proper boat to make the trip. I'm pretty sure it's beyond my 18' runabout.

I'd love to hear about your ICW experinces!

A 25' cruiser could do that trip I assume?

I don't have full charts, just what I can dig up on the internet. How many times does the ICW dump you out in the ocean if at all? How much traffic is there in the various canal? How long would it take to go the 1000 miles via the ICW, I'm guessing probably no more then a week?

I'm finding a descrepency in how long the AIWC is. Some sources site it as starting in Norfilk Va and ending in key West FL. Others say that is starts in Boston and ends in Miami.

The ICW is traveled alot by peolpe doing the American Great loop trip
go to "www.greatloop.com"

they have a chat room that is very active, I get 20 or 30 messages each day, where boaters are traveling around the great loop !

My wife & I expect to do the trip in 2008 or 2009 takes about a year, but you can use the ICW to go to Fla in about 7 to 10 days , depends on the Weather and size of you boat !
