Default Where is the best place to get a starter?

I found myself looking for a new starter, should I rebuild the Delco marine (I don't think it is the original starter cause the part number doesn't match the diagram I have) or just buy a new one? Where should I pick up the new one, is it any cheaper online than at a local parts dealer?

Any thoughts...

Anywhere that sells marine starters. I wouldn't sucked into the allure of a cheap starter from a automotive store despite how much alike they are.

I agree with Shrew, stay away from automotive as the result may be expolsive. Endless results on line, just need to shop around but need to concider shipping cost as a starter is heavy when comparing to local dealer. Also how soon do you want it? Deal may have in stock vs. extra shipping cost for overnite.

You just need to spend a little time on-line to convince yourself what's right for you.

I bought a starter online for about half of what the local marine store wanted. I have over 60 hours on it, with no problems. Try www.keitheickert.com.

Have had good results with these guys:
http://www.arcomarine.com/index.html

Have one on an old Johnson 50hp and one on my Merc. 5.7
What I like about them is that they are brand new, not reman.

Thanks every body! A friend of mine hooked me up wit ha local dealer that had comparable prices to what I found online after shipping. This however bring up a new problem.

The old starter has 3 connection points to the solenoid. Main lug has two thick (8AWG) red wires and two small lugs one red wire and the other is yellow. It looks like the new starter is configured differently, will there be a diagram in the box. I have the schematic for the boat.

SOLVED: New starter is picked up and... all is as expected. What I thought was a terminal on the end of the starter motor is actually a mounting point for some models. Thanks for the help!
