Default waste tank stink in head

leave the boat for a couple days with water in the toilet bowl, comeback and the water is urine yellow and the smell is unbearable. i've emptied the waste tank and put biologic treatment in + keep putting that in the bowl with water. been 2 weeks now and still stinks. apparently, my son saw bubbles coming into the toilet bowl water followed by minor smell the other day. have a newer (3yrs old) Jabsco pump toilet and leave the fill or empty switch on empty.

What kind of system do you have, vacuflush or electric Macerator? That’s probably a sign the your vent hose or filter is plugged and the joker valve (if electric Macerator) is bad. As the tank heats up it could be pushing its contents back to the bowl.

1) There is a check valve (duck bill) at the discharge for the pump. This prevents 'fluid' from back flushing from the discharge line back into the bowl. This is a serviceable item that needs to be periodically replaced. If you are in salt water, this needs to be replaced much more frequently.

2) When you leave the boat, flush freshwater back so that the contents of the discharge line between the discharge pump on the head and the holding tank is full of freshwater.

What kind of head do you have?

Are you in freshwater or saltwater?

I would do the following:

1) Install a holding tank vent line filter on the vent line between the holding tank and the through hull discharge.

2) Replace the Joker valve on the head discharge line.

3) Get pumped out if you are going to leave the boat for a more than 2 days. We I was a weekend boater, I would do this on Sunday before I left for the week

4) Start using holding tank chemicals after every pum pout.

5) When you leave for the week, flush back freshwater until the head and the entire length of sanitation line is holding clean, freshwater. (Do this at the same time you flush back holding tank chemicals).

6) If this is a raw water electric flush and you are in saltwater, then upgrade to Raritan Sea Era dual flush. This allows you to choose between drawing from raw water or from your freshwater tank.

Default thanks again Shrew

one more question. can I put a FW hose in where the waste gets sucked out from? wouldn't there be some kind of one-way valve there as well?

Absolutely not. You will likely cross contaminate your freshwater.

Do you have a manual flush, electric flush or vacuflush head?
