Default u joint or gimbal bearing

I have a 1700 sr with the 3.0lx and alpha one drive I am hearing what I think is bearing noise coming from the drive. I am not sure if it is the gimbal bearing going bad or the u .joints. is there a way to know which it is before taking it apart.

Welcome aboard

u-joints will change pitch when turning the wheel side to side.

What shape are the bellows in?

It may be time to replace it all, bellows, u-joints, gimbal bearing.

Thanks I just bought the boat a month ago the pervious owner had the bellows and the exhaust Mai fold replaced last fall they look fine. Would the gimbal bearing be more of a steady growl.

Yes although it would probably get loader with higher rpm.
