Default stern drive removal

two quick questions.
Does the stern drive have to be drained before removal, one of my exhaust bellows has come off the aft end(the clamp and metal clips are missing)? and
I have a broken continuaty wire on the stbd stern drive, is this a stainless steel wire and does anyone know where I can get one, I can'r seem to locate one anywhere.
thanks

the wire you just make up with marine grade wire and end fittings...they are tin plated so they don't corrode....

as for the drive coming off...it's alot easier to remove if it's drained ...lotsa weight in the oil....just pull the vent plug at the top of the drive and the bottom drain plug on the side of the bullet.....let the oil drain into a pan....

to fill it..just get one of those hand pumps and start from the bottom ..

Thanks SP,
I changed the oil in the fall so I don't want to do it again. the weight issue wasn't my concern, just wanted to make sure I didn't spill it all out when I removed the drive. As for the wire, I will drop by the shop tomorrow and pick up some wire and fittings

if you remove the bottom half of the drive...it will spill oil everywhere...

but if you take the whole drive off at the mounting gimblel..then nope..you probably won't spill a drop...

take pic's..let us know how it goes...
