Default Steering play

Hi

I'm a life time boater from across the pond and have recently moved from an open boat to our first sports cruiser a 2400 SCR. i have had it two weeks and I'm trying to get to grips with the differences between this boat and my previous boats as this is my first inboard. The one it replaced being a Scorpion RIB with 225 opti, which was an amazing sea boat.

One issue i have is steering play. the steering wheel moves around 10 degrees before any steering happens. i have swung the outdrive and there is no play, i've moved the tiller and can't get any play so i think it must be in the rack and pinion/cable.

For you experienced guys how likely does that sound and it is an easy job to do???

I'd appreciate any help

thanks

Richard

Welcome aboard.

I have seen the bolts come loose on the steering rack, look under the helm for this.

Have someone turn the wheel while watching where the cable attaches to the steering arm (tiller) and see if play exists.

The swivel shaft is a common source of play but you said there is no side to side drive play.
