Steering Cable Advice

I have a ‘96 Maxum, 5.7 Mercruiser Alpha II.
17.5’ cable portion then there’s the rack & pinion portion and the cylinder/slider at the other end.
Cable is super-stiff.
I called West Marine and they told me that my boat is getting old and the steering systems have changed a lot since it was new.
Essentially they advised me to go to other boat suppliers because that cable is gonna be hard to get.
Does anyone here know where I can go/order a new cable?

There should be a part number on the cable outer jacket. You should be able to find the cable from Teleflex which most marine outlets sell.
