Default Replacing thru hulls on 98 3000SCR

My thru hulls are original to the boat, and are ready to be replaced. I have one in particular that's got to be done this offseason, it is starboard side midship, looks to be near to the head. There is a set of three here, one is to the mid cabin bilge, one to the head sink, and one to a tube that terminates near the mid cabin bilge (no idea what this one was for?).

Any tips on accessing these, or installing new (this will be my first go at these, but I'll have some supervision)? It looks like I'm going to have to remove the storage cabinet above the head and then will have a long reach down in there to get at them?

Looking at the o wners manual under Documents the three are head sink drain, forward bilge pump, shower sump drain. Looks like they should be accessible from the mid-berth, is there an access panel in there?

Mike, by mid-berth are you referring to the settee area across from the galley, or the cabin aft of the head under the helm?

Thanks Mike, will check it out and report back. Does it happen to mention the size thru hull I'll need?

I did not see the sizes listed.

In my 2800, I had to remove the toilet paper holder in the head to access the three Stbd midship through hulls. I would suggest spending the money and replacing with something other than nylon. Nylon degrades over time when exposed to UV.

Bronze:
-Pro: strong, won't crack or shear. won't corrode
-Con: Most expensive option

Stainless Steel
-Pro: strong, won't crack or shear.
-Con: Expensive. It can rusts

Marelon:
-Pro: Won't degrade when exposed to UV. Inexpensive
-Con: Could potentially crack or shear under some extreme circumstances

Whatever you use I would install with 3m 4000 which is UV resistant.

When I did mine I got them from West Marine, black plastic material with a chrome outer ring.

Did mine on my 99 3000. Access is thru the storage area in the head. Pretty easy access.

Parsons, your talking about the storage above the head? That seemed most logical to me when I looked at it last, but it still seemed like that was going to be higher up and I was going to have a bit of a reach. I'm headed out there today to see if I can get the old ones removed.

Thanks for the recommendations on fittings. I had been planning on the stainless, is rust a frequent issue? I'd prefer to do this once and put something in that's going to last, but I've also got to be mindful that I'll be replacing most of the rest of them in the next few years and I'll want them to match.

Got into this today, I was able to access through the storage cabinet above the head. I also pulled out the toilet paper holder, which was a second way to get in there and hold things a bit. Overall not too bad, just was worried I was going to drop a tool down in the hull, seemed like the land of no return down there! Will be heading to grab some replacements soon and will wrap up the job. Thanks to all who posted!
