Default Oil question

Hi All,

I bought my first boat last spring with 220 hours. I changed the oil at the end of the season and put synthetic blend from WM not paying to much attention to its kind since purpose of it was only to keep the boat through the winter storage. I'm about to change the oil before the beginning of the season and got a problem deciding if I should go with regular or synthetic. I know that recommendations are to use the same oil throughout the entire engine live but I don't have a clue what kind of oil was used previously. Now boat got 300 hours and its 2002 maxim 2500 with I/O 5.7 merc. Thanks in advance.

You did what you are supposed do in the fall. No need to change the oil in the spring. Wait to see if you have put on 50 hours on it around july when change the oil and filters.

I would use 25w-40 mercury or quicksilver and stay away from using synthetic. Imho you are throwing money away.

Use the 25-40 Either Mercruiser or Quicksilver. I would only use synthetic if it were a brand new engine or had been using synth it's entire life. If it has used non-synth that is what i would continue using.

I just have no idea what was used before so either I'll use regular oil or synthetic the chances that this was used before are 50/50. Thanks guys.

I would use regular oil if you're unsure.
