Default Newbie - ENGINE HORN going off - 2400 Maxum SCR

Hello All,

I have a 2400 maxum Scr. I had an issue with the heat exchanger when I first bought the boat because it wasn't holding antifreeze. The temperature would rise above 175 degrees and the engine horn would go off. We got that problem fixed and have taken the boat out several times and no problems. The heat exchanger resivor has been holding.

However, I took the boat all day yesterday and as I was coming back to park, the engine horn when off. I looked at the temp and it was holding steady at 175. I shut it down since we just pulled into park. I inspected the engine compartment and there was still antifreeze fluid in the resivor. There's another smaller resivor next to the heat exchanger that said "drive lube...". It had black fluid in it but below the add line. Is this the engine oil? Or some sort of different lube for the engine. Could this cause the horn to go off?

Is there a another reason why the horn went off even with the temp holding at 175 degrees?

Thanks for your advice and time,

- Steve

welcome to the zoo...well..it sounds like you found your problem and answered it too...there are 3 possible triggers for the horn...1)engine over heat, 2) engine oil pressure and 3)drive lube oil...the reservoir you saw that was at the add line...the lube oil is a special type of drive oil..do not put anything other than drive oil.....
add the lube oil to that can and the alarm should stop.....
