Maxum 1800 SR3 Front Locker Gas Strut Replacement?

Hi all,


My Maxum 1800 SR3's front locker has a rusty gas strut, so much so that I can't make out the numbers in order to find a direct replacement. Does anyone have the correct details to hand that they can share please?




The current one seems a little over powered to do the job, so may not be the original; the hatch tends to sit a little one sided when closed (by its force).

Measure the length closed, then measure the length open. Then buy a strut.

I can measure it, but there are different NM strengths of strut. Ideally, I would like to replace it with the original spec, if someone has the correct strut info to hand?

Use a scale. Read the lbs right at the breaking point between static and opening. Then read the lbs at the breaking point between static and closing. Avg the 2 numbers. That is the rating for the strut you have. Since you know the strut is too strong, try a lighter strut.

I just replaced mine. you will hopefully have worked out that it's a 55cm strut. In terms of force I bought an adjustable strut. Basically you can release the pressure through a small screw until it gives the required support. I suggest you leave it stronger than you think you need and then slowly turn it down. It needs more than the initial lifting weight to keep it safe while afloat.
