get the service manual by the manufacturer....that will give you more info....

if I can remember..I'll contact my parts guy and see what it would cost for a drop shipment..

...and another vote for the manufacturer manual. It's a little more spendy, but worth it. I've read that the Seloc manual is much less expensive, but can have omissions/incorrect instructions, so avoid it. If you know the specific service manual number you may find it on eBay.

I checked local marine parts store. Said he can get me Seloc for $40 canadian. Said there was another manual maker but couldn't think of who. I'll go to mercruiser dealer to see about factory manual. Thanks for advice. 1995 7.4L Bravo 2 2700SCR

I have 5.0L mercs and I have both the Merc service manual (#24) and the Seloc manual. Now I haven't read both from cover to cover but just last night I was looking for info on the distributor cap and the tach sensor wheel and it was very nicely explained in the Seloc manual and not explained AT ALL in the Merc manual. So, although I agree that the manufacturer's manual is important, it lacks information on HOW things work.

I actually found my complete manual on this site in electronic format.

Ok just did this myself and ended up buying a Clymers manual. Looked and talked to a mechanic friend of mine and from what we can tell the Merc manual is fine but leaves out some details that every Merc trained mechanic just automatically knows. Seeing that I don't know a damn thing the Clymers seemed to be more baby steps for me. The Merc manual is for Merc mechanics who can also call their support team.

IMHO if your a mechnically smart dude you can go Merc, if your a guy with a nice toolbox I think your fine the other way.

Check out the iboats.com forum. They have the merc manuals under the "adults only" thread in the merc sterdrive section.
