Default Gimbal bearing seal

I would have thought that the replacement of the gimbal bearing seal would be typical with the replacement of the gimbal bearing. Very few bearing kits actually come with a seal. Why is that? I'm replacing my gimbal bearing now but I'm hesitant. I looked at my seal and it looks fine. Do they not get replaced often? Any insight would be appreciated, thanks

Welcome aboard!

I believe the seal is there to prevent grease from the gimbal bearing from migrating into the bilge however these days most gimbal bearing are the lubed for life’s sealed units. Me I would install a new seal just because. The transom rebuild kits also don’t include the trim limit and position senders but they typically need replacement.

I appreciate the insight. I probably wont worry about it then since the new bearing is sealed and the seal is in good shape.
