Default Engine Winterization

Hi Im new to this forum-just bought a maxum 1800mx 2005.Ref the winterization side- on e bay there is a very easy diy winterization kit to fill the engine with antifreeze. This comprises of a container and all the connections to connect to the ear mufflers.Trouble is cannot get this kit in uk as far as i Know.Getting it from usa is expensive around 90-100pounds.Does anyone know where one can get this DIY kit in the uk.I am even looking at the choice of making my own kit up but this takes time.Any ideas on this would be appreciated.

Andy

Welcome aboard

One MAJOR caution about using this kit which it doesn't make clear is you need to have the engine warmed up to operating temperature to ensure the t-stat is fully opened before using the kit otherwise the antifreeze will not circulate through the engine.

I flush my engine with city water first to get it to operating temp. then remove all drain plugs, some people stop here since the coolant passages then just have air in the then and air doesn't freeze. However I reinstall the drains and then flush with antifreeze to dilute any remaining water and help prevent rust in the passages.

I would add the fogging oil to this advises.
mmwjr say yo spray in the carb. Nothing wrong with that but I like better to dump the oil in the carb. That will kill the engine.
I always use this product.

Moved posts to a new thread. Post is hijacking a 5-year-old thread on a similar topic.

You don't need a kit. Here is what I used to do when I had an outboard.

1 1-to-2 hose splitter
1 Garden hose (long)
2 garden hose (5-10 feet)
2 inline hose shutoffs
5 Gallon bucket
1outdrive flush muffs

1) Connect muffs to outdrive
2) connect short hose to muffs
3) install inline hose shutoffs on both outlet sides of the Y splitter.
3) connect short hose to the inlet side of the Y splitter (yes you're running the splitter backwards)
4) Connect Long hose to outlet 1 of the splitter
5) Connect short hose to outlet 2 of the splitter
6) Connect long hose to water spigot
7) Insert short hose into bucket
8) Fill bucket with Marine/RV antifreeze (propylene glycol).
9) close both inline shutoff valves.
10) Turn on water at spigot.
11) On the splitter, open the inline shut off valve connected to the spigot.
12) Start engine. (Engine is now running off of the garden hose to the spigot).
13) Allow engine to fully warm up.
14) Once engine is warm, open the inline shutoff to the antifreeze bucket and close the inline shutoff to the water hose.
15) Fill bucket with marine antifeeze as the level drops.
16) Once exhaust has been discharging AF for a few minutes, stop the engine.

You're done.
