Default Cleaning off haze

I recently purchased a 1989 Maxum 17. I am trying to clean off the haze on the paint. What is the pest product to use? I know I can't get all of it off due to the age, but I would like to atleast get her shined up.

Hello Mike,
if their is a local marine fiberglass shop near by, stop in and ask the pros what they use. I asked the guys who put on my swim platform and they went through a clear cut process and had the supplies on hand to purchase that you cant buy from most marine retail stores. depending on how bad your Haze is, you can use a 3 step compound followed by a wax and sealer. its a long, all day (perhaps 2) process. again it all depends on your gel coat oxidation. after that a good wax once - twice a year ought to keep it looking sharp. I use nu-finish and it holds up as well as any other i have tried.
good luck!

Yup, the haze is oxidation. Use a buffer with the appropriate pad and some rubbing compound - such as 3M Finess, to bring the shine back, then top it with a good wax.

Good owner/boat bonding time.

Thanks Ed. I was surpised to find there is an X-Kote dealer right here in my town. My 1990 2700 SCR has new mostly new gelcoat and bottom paint but the white on top is pretty chaulky. I am going to get a quote and will look at bringing it in after this boating season is over. I will post the before and after pics.

This stuff works great, but surely isn't cheap by any stretch of the imagination. My latest container was $50, and needs to be applied with a machine... then washed and waxed thereafter.

As said, great bonding time. You will find muscles you didn't know you had!
