Default Alpha one gen2 question

Hello,

I bought my boat last spring and the preowner had hit a stone or something, I part of the out drive is cut away and the rest off the lowest part of the out drive is a bit crocked.
The paint was also scratched of.
Now I'm about to repaint it and tried to take away the small metallic spacer that is fitted on the left side of the out drive and on the lowest mounting hole, that resulted in not what I had in mind. The torx screw broke right of and now I have the screw head and the spacer lose but the rest I stuck I the hole, should I try to drill it out or should I just drill a new hole or is it enough just to glue it back?
I don't know what the function is of it.

The skeg is usually what shears off along with the prop blades. A new prop will resolve that. You have two options for the sheared skeg:

1) Find someone who can weld aluminum

2) Get a bolt on skeg gaurd to essentially replace the missing skeg. Such as: http://skeggard.com/

This part I'm not completely clear on what you mean. As for the bolt....here is a good rule of thumb. If it previously took a BOLT, then glue will probably not be sufficient.

Whatever it is, drill it and reverse it out and replace it.

Fippe some pictures whould help here as I am not sure I understand what you are talking about.

It sounds like the skeg is broke and bent. A sheg guard can be installed as shrew says but the bend will need to be corrected first.

I have no idea as to what screw you are refering to but glue will not work. Got a picture?

That is a continuity washer. It ensures the outdrive is bonding to the gimbal housing. I would just drill it out and use a self tapping screw to replace it. As for the skeg, just get a skeg guard.

I'll give it a try, but I think it's a bit tricky when the screw is made of stainless steel.
If it's impossible is it a bad thing too drill a new hole beside the old one?

Use a center punch to place a dimple into the broke shank of the screw, this will keep the drill bit from wondering. Also use a hardened drill bit, should not be to hard to drill out.

Worst case I don't see any reason why you could not drill a new hole next to it and install an insert to screw into and still achieve a good bond.

I had a similar issue with one of the small bolts that hold the zinc on the trim ram. I suspect you might run into the same problem. The chuck of the drill might prevent you from drilling straight into the sheared bolt because you are so close to the drive housing right there. You're not missing a lot of the skeg. A skeg guard would be fine for that.

Good work, Fippe. I just want to say I am impressed with anyone that can work on his boat over hardwood floors!!! Nice touch in the "garage."
