Default Transom leak from exhaust pipe ?

All,
I have an ongoing problem with a transom leak on my Maxum 2700scr with 7.4 mercruiser and Bravo II sterndrive. Water appears to leak from way down low at the transom when I am out on the water and then slows to dripping for 1-2 days after stopping. I had all the bellows replaced in an attempt to fix the problem but it persists. I would say about 3 gallons leaks after stopping. I am wondering if it could be a leak from the exhaust y-pipe water jacket or the joint between the y-pipe and the transom ? The engine starts very hard when cold and wonder if this could be related - possibly water intrusion into the engine as well ? Hope this makes sense. Thanks.

Welcome to the zoo Muddy
sure could be it...the "Y" pipe holds the flapper valve...it prevents water from coming up and into the engine...so..yes ..that very well could be the problem.....but your going to have to take the entire exhaust boots and maybe the manifold out to get too it...

let us know how it goes..

Thanks, seapuppy. I know the previous owner told me he had replaced the flappers not too long ago. Maybe he didn't do it right. I am having a mechanic check it out today. Will update later with what he says. Could a flapper problem somehow allow the water into the bilge as well ?

MM, when you say the engine starts very hard - can you describe that a bit more?

Regardless, if water was getting into the engine by way of the exhaust it likely wouldn't start at all and you'd be pulling the engine for rebuild/replacement.

If the bravo II is the same as my disassembled Bravo III there is a flapper located inside of the drive that keeps water from coming back in. Could it be that?
