Default Starter Issue

when starting the engine it sometimes sounds like the starter is not disengaging for about 1 or 2 seconds after I release the key.

is that something out of adjustment or do you think its time for a new one?

Most likely it’s the starter but could be a sticky ignition switch or soleniod. Verify the switched voltage at the soleniod goes away as soon the key is released. If that checks out it’s the starter.

If the engine serial number is still on the top of the engine you can look it up that way or there should be a ID tag on the side of the block on the back of one side.

Your engine serial number is what you would use. I can see the second letter is a W, followed by 32. If you can read the first letter then you have the info needed. Your title should also have your engine serial number.

marineengine dot com and wholesale marine will give you more parts than the Mercury site. I just bought a starter for $42.
