Default srange stalling issue

hi, i am new to the boards. looking forward to getting alot of good info from here so hey guys. ok my problem is that i have a 1989 maxum with the v6 and i cant seem to keep it in the water too long without it stalling. i bought the adapter to run it in the driveway with the hose and when i do it runs good and runs a long time. it is idling at 750rpm. so i go to put it in the lake and get crusing around and it stalls. get it back on the trailer and run in at the launch and it runs great. also after it dies the engine just clicks like a dead battery and that was changed last summer. i checked for water in the fuel water separator and it was ok, i also pulled the carb apart and cleaned it out again cause that is what fixed the stalling problem last summer. i was wondering though if it might be the alterntor? with the engine running at idle i only have 9v on my meter and when i shut the engine off and go to start it reads like 3v. sorry this is long but i have run out of ideas for troubleshooting this. thanks for taking the time to read.

well...first off...welcome to the zoo..secondly..check all of the electrical connections..clean the batt's connections...the grounds and check the connections at the alt. and starter...then....if it still does it....I'd then suspect the batt.'s.....if they have a shorted out cell..it can do that kind of symptom...
