Default Remote oil filter system for Merc. 5.7L

Does anyone have an alternative to the costly Mercruiser Remote Oil Filter set up. Merc. want ~ $300. which I feel is a little excessive. Any recommendations ?

Thanks
Henry

Hi Henry, Welcome!!

I did a search and found a couple on eBay that were a bit cheaper:

I hope that helps.

welcome to the zoo henry..
yeah...go to the auto parts store...get one that is painted or powder coated and is stamped steel....has all the fittings or the aluminum one ...primer and paint it....this is to reduce the corrosion effects of salt water......
I think they cost about 45 bucks complete....

Hi Henry,
My only comment is to check the length of the hoses. You will want the filter to be mounted toward the front of the engine. Some kits look like the hoses are only long enough to reach the rear right above the original location.
Look at the differences in the hose length in the links Shrew provided. The second one looks far longer than the first link.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I was just remembering the tough time I had changing the oil in my new-to-me 2400SR this fall and wanted more information about a remote oil filter setup. Do you happen to have any links you could post to show what you are talking about from an auto parts store? I can't seem to find them.

Sorry about reviving an old thread again, but I still haven't found a good (cheaper) alternative to the Mercruiser remote mount for my oil filter on my 5.7. Does anyone have any specific links to what they did?

Joe
