Default new owner 06 maxum 1800mx

hey guys i'm new to the site and a proud new owner of a 06 maxum 1800mx 3.0L. love it so far but i have noticed that it dose pretty bad on gas. i mean i went out for about 30-45 min (i forgot exactly how long) well i burned a 1/4 tank of gas. i know my timing isn't right and i plan on fixing that but i doubt that is gonna make a very big differnce in mileage. is there anything else that could be wrong that i can check.

please help

hai

welcom to this maxum forum......the fuel consumption of your boat will be around 2 gallons (7 liter) an hour with a speed of 1000/1200 rpm

here are all the test results.....

http://www.boattest.com/boats/boat_video.aspx?ID=435

also weather and water conditions have an influence on the fuel consumption, the fuel meter is not so precisely....so fill here up till the neck, go out, remember what you did with the boat, and for how many hours, and then fill her up again.....

greatz, ed

PSD,

Ignition timing can have a huge impact on performance and MPG. What makes you believe the timing is off? How many hours are on the engine?

How large is the fuel tank on that boat? If it's 50 gal., then 1/4 tank would only be 12.5 gal. I would bet that a lot of stop/starts could easily burn that getting on plane a number of times. So could running around at wide open throttle. How much fuel was in it when you started? Maybe it's an illusion, but the guage always seems to move slower from full to half, than from half to empty. I'm sure it's just me though. LOL.

Well the motor dieseled a little and backfire through the carb when you cut the key and also
I had a friend that knows a lot about boats and told me. I have since corrected the timing
And made a huge difference in the way it ran I picked up about 500rpms at wot. And
Seemed that fuel did a little better but I wasn't out for very long. After reading some stuff
I think I may have been a little to optimistic about fuel mileage being a 4cyl from what people
Were saying how well they did on fuel I mean this is my first boat. I've been on a fair share of
Boats but never paid attention to fuel gauge or was there for filling up

Thumbs up

first off..welcome to the zoo..2nd .since this is your first boat...take a boat safety course...3rdly...make sure the boat and you are being safe...the boat should have all the safety eqpt..flares...whistle...first aide kit....radio (vhf if your on or near the saltwater) and NEVER ever approach the dock faster than your willing to crash into it...

enjoy...remember..boat= break out another thousand..
