Default Motor Horse power

Hello All, I have a 1998 2100 sc . It has a 4.3 mercruiser, 260 HP. I cannot find any info on the 260 hp motor. Is this correct HP? The plate states it is 260 hp. Cheers.

Usually the 4.3 Chevy is 190-200hp. Either you have some High Performance unit or the wrong plate.

260 does sound high for a 4.3. If you have a 4 barrel carb, then I think it's 205 or 210.
Some places I've seen list the 4.3l as 260 cu. in. instead of 262 cu. in.
Pretty sure a stock 5.7l has a hp rating of about 255.

Which plate are you referring to? The capacity plate(yellow and black)? It will give a max hp for the boat, not necessarily what is in it.

I talked to mercruiser mechanic, he says that my motor is a 4.3LX. Optional motor for boat. Plate does say 262 c.i./260 HP. Cheers fellow Maxumers.

im in the middle of getting a 96 maxum 2152. it has a 5.7 350, and is only 250hp.. something doesn't sound rite about getting that HP out of a v6 unless its turbocharged or something..

It is correct Jimmy.

While there may have been some 4.3's rated at 260 HP (I've never seen one) the 250 HP 5.7 still makes much more torque than the 4.3, and more usable HP in the RPM ranges that are used most.
