Default Mercruiser 3L, 135HP engine

I have been looking at a 2001 Maxum 1800SR and just learned that the engine overheated last year and required $3,000 worth of repair work. The boat hasn't been in the water since the repairs were made. Is there anything I should look for to make sure that everything was fixed properly and is completely operational?

Thanks-

just go easy on it till your trust is built up....watch the temps..if it starts to climb ..shut down immediately....use common sense....what was repaired???..

I might let it warm up idling at the docks where you launch prior to heading out. Or maybe purchase a set of water phones (or whatever they're called) and run it for awhile at the house or storage area.

I sold my last boat because I did not trust it. When I bought it there was problems with the impeller, manifolds, theromostat. I got it all fixed but just could not relax when I took it out. The guy that bought it loves it and runs it all day long.

I was told that the engine was completely rebuilt and to think of it as a new engine. The impellers were also replaced. I will take it out on a sea trial prior to purchase.

Treq7 - I cannot urge you enough to walk away. Not because the engine has had issues (which is reason enough for concern), but because the 3.0 135hp block lacks power big time.

It just isn't up to the task of pushing the 18ft boat effectively - I've now owned 3 1800's over the years and at worst would recommend the 4.3, at best the 4.3MPI.

My advice is keep looking.....

While this may be true in some aspects, it depends on your application and plans for the boat.
