Ignition switch`

Hi everyone

I have a 1992 2300 SCR and the ignition switch won't turn! It will just about make enough contact to get the dials moving but will not stay in that position or turn to Start.

It was working without problems a few days ago.

The batteries are on and fully charged. The kill switch is activated.

My questions:

1. Is this a problem with the switch itself (suggested by someone)?
2. If so, where can I get a replacement?
3. Could I use a generic igniition switch?

Any other suggestions welcome.

Hi chuck...
well...it sounds like your switch bit the big one...maybe one of the contacts broke off....that's the bad news..the good news is that these switches are easy to replace and there is really not alot too them....as a matter of fact you can hot wire the pwr on and then use a screwdriver to start the engine by shorting across the poles in the back of the switch...(had to do that to get us home one day when my keys escaped over the dock edge)....
anyway...they are really easy to replace...you can get one from west marine or any marine chandlery for about 20 bucks...make sure the pwr is totally off......tape your wires and mark them with a marker on the back of the sw.....positive...ie red wire...accessories...etc...I think there are only 3 poles on the back of the sw.....take the sw. with you to the parts place and they should be able to match it up with no problems...

SP, how does one bypass the bucket full of key floats (key PFD's) at the checkout counter of every ship store and marine retailer without picking one up? I'd send you one of the 10's I have kicking around, but the shipping would probably cost more than the float itself. They give them away at every other booth at the boat shows too. I appreciate the courage it took to admit somthing like that. It sounds like a life lesson i would learn only after diving for my keys.

believe it or not..mine somehow got off the float and made the escape into the water...the last key waved goodbye as it slipped over the edge of the dock!!!....now...no way they can escape...we have gps trackers....lanyards....leash....and they never leave the boat....hahahaha..


please don't send me any...I have about 10 somewhere around here....there has to be 3 on each key now!!..and the Seattle boat show is coming up!!...5 more!! :mrgreen:
