Default Idle start up

Hi
Can you idle up to start/warm engine
I am having to engage in gear to warm the engine
Once warm motor idles fine
Is there a choke I'm missing
MX1800 3.0litre

Not sure if your throttle is similar to mine but on mine, the throttle lever has a large push button where it pivots, Push it in then move the throttle, this should increase revs but keep it in neutral.

Not sure what year your engine is but the carb either has a choke or it’s a TKS that has an enrichment circuit. The TKS should just be turn the key to start. The older choke carb requires you to pump the throttle control to set the choke. It should idle in the neutral position until warm although a little advanced throttle may be required for a minute.

Info on your carb setup is key. As Mike states, your carb either has a choke or fuel enrichment solenoid. Let us know which you have and we can help you with testing and adjustments.
Also check your idle mixture screw setting. Close the screw gently, then back it out 1 1/4 turn. There is discussion on this process in your service manual in the documents section.

So, two issues.

1) No, you should not have to increase rpm to keep the engine running while it warms up.

2) Yes, you can put the boat into neutral and rev the RPM's without engaging the transmission and putting the boat into FWD or REV.

Depending on your shifter, you either push a button on the center of the lever fulcrum, or you pull the handle out while it is in neutral. This will allow you to rev the engine without putting it into gear.
