Default Flex Hose

On my 2009 SR3 Maxum there is a flexible ribbed hose about 16" long and is about 1 1/4" wide that attaches with a hose clamp to the back (outside) of the transom and on the other end attaches to the starboard side of the stern drive. This hose encompasses a small line of some kind. The hose tore completely in half and allowed the bilge to completely flood with water. Can anybody tell me what this hose is called so I can get a new one ordered? Also, what line is this hose protecting? I figure it must be either to do with steering or the tilt/trim.

Welcome aboard

Bellows, there are three of them the largest top one is the drive shaft bellows and seals off the universals from the water. Smaller bottom bellows is the exhaust, if this leaks water cannot enter the bilge. Then there is a small tapered shift cable bellows.

If anyone is torn it's time to replace all three. Since you are getting water in the boat replace the gimbal bearing as well.

Go to Documents of this site to get the mercruiser manual for the drive and read up.
