Default engine timing thunderbolt 5

when slowly accelerating the engine bogs down and sometimes backfires ,
my question is ...
the timing cover has a single groove and no numbers and is supposed to be set at 8 degrees before T D C . Is the groove 8 degrees or is that T D C .

TDC, get a timing tape that is sized for the diameter of your balancer, try summit racing.

Don't forget to put the module in Base Timing Mode when setting the initial timing.
